Functional Features

A. Voltage withstand insulation test and arc detection (ARC)

Poor voltage withstand means that there should be no electrical flashover or insulation damage during the voltage withstand test. Nowadays, voltage withstand insulation test has become the standard equipment for all kinds of insulation material testing. However, just considering insulation failure is not a complete solution to product safety problems, another type of phenomenon, which is getting more and more attention in voltage withstand testing nowadays, is discharge, which has a very high correlation between discharge and insulation capability, so discharge detection is not only an important related issue, but also the main key to control product quality.

 

Arc Discharge .

 

Arc discharge occurs in the following two situations

1. When the material is subjected to high voltage, the electric field strength is relatively large, and the electric field strength is greater than the ionization energy of the gas, the gas on the surface of the material will undergo transient ionization phenomenon, which will form a fire on the surface of the material and form a temperature rise phenomenon on the material. Prolonged ignition and temperature rise may cause material quality change, which in turn leads to insulation degradation, making the voltage tolerance degree decrease, and ultimately insulation failure occurs.

2. When the distance between the detection points of the tested parts is too small, and a higher voltage is applied to the two ends of the tested parts, the air in the space between the two ends of the detection points will be ionized, resulting in the phenomenon of ignition, that is, the phenomenon of pulling the arc.

Due to the arc phenomenon produces high-frequency transient discharge, such as Figure 1, is generated in the test process of a high-frequency current signal, this high-frequency signal is greater than the normal test signal, so it will cause a misjudgment, so the arc detection (ARC) function is a high-frequency power measurement detection, on the one hand, you can determine whether the material insulation of the new ability to be bad, and on the other hand, can prevent the misjudgment.

B. Contact check function OSC

 

In the process of withstand voltage test due to the oxidation of the contact point of the tested parts, test line damage, etc., will occur open circuit phenomenon, which will lead to defective products misjudged as good products; at the same time, the tested parts are damaged or the spacing between the tested ends is too small leading to short circuit phenomenon of the test line, the instrument can be known and screened in advance, reducing the damage to the fixtures and equipment to save the cost of the test.

Therefore, it is possible to reduce the occurrence of poor contact problems on the production line by utilizing the judgment of the upper and lower limit values of the change in capacitance.

C. Insulation collapse detection

Conventional test withstand voltage, as shown in Figure 2, just set the rise time and test voltage value, if the test time, the measured part of the breakdown phenomenon, it will be judged that the withstand voltage is bad, directly cut off the test voltage. Therefore, the conventional withstand voltage test can only judge whether the withstand voltage is qualified under the pointing voltage.

However, there are some passive components or materials that need to be tested for their high voltage withstand level and derive an accurate value of the crash voltage, then the conventional voltage withstand detection methods can't help. Therefore the TH9110/A adds a crash voltage detection function, as shown in Figure 3:

As can be seen from the figure, the collapse voltage test function is based on the set climbing start voltage, end voltage, voltage step and time interval, and gradually measure the measured parts, when the measured parts appear to withstand the phenomenon of poor insulation, automatically save the voltage value at this time, that is, the collapse voltage; if the voltage value climbs to the cut-off voltage, the measured parts still do not appear to collapse, you can reset the cut-off voltage, etc., to carry out further Analysis, until the correct value of the collapse voltage. Therefore, the collapse voltage test mode can be used to analyze the component under test, so that researchers can improve the insulation of the component where it is weak.

D. Super Safety Design - Floating Ground Output Function / Electrocution Protection Function

 

The purpose of safety testing is to protect the user of the product, and when the operator is operating the instrument, it also needs to be protected by the design of the instrument.The TH9110/A is designed with two types of protection safety design for choice, namely the floating ground output and the electric shock protection function.

As shown in Figure 4, when the human body accidentally touches the high-voltage end of the test, the low end of the high-voltage circuit (RETURN) is not grounded, but isolated from the ground, equivalent to access to a highly insulated resistor, so that the current through the human body will not be greater than 3.5mA, thus ensuring the safety of the test personnel.
