Product Overview: 5730A High Precision Multifunction Calibrator
Calibrators for the metrology expert
The 5730A provides a well-performing DC/low frequency signal designed for the needs of calibration professionals. This includes: national calibration labs, military, defense, third party calibration labs, in-house calibration labs, and more.
The 5730A high accuracy calibrator is traceable to national standards and follows the certification requirements of ISO 17025. The specifications are given at 99% confidence level and 95% confidence level to meet the stringent requirements of various international quality management standards. The total uncertainty of the instrument includes the calibration uncertainty of its traceability, thus eliminating the need for further analysis at the time of use.
Improved performance, inside and out
The 5730A utilizes new twenty-first century technologies and methods, allowing it to further enhance its technical specifications and improve reliability, ease of use, and surpass the original 5700A series. The 5730A follows the panel operation details preferred by users of the 5700A series. To this, a large color touch screen has been added, making it easier and more efficient to use during measurement and calibration work. User operation follows the convenient calculator-style panel keys, and the new wide display interface makes reading information more straightforward, menu operation more convenient, and function recall can even be accomplished with a single keystroke. Status indicators such as "OPERATE", "STANDBY" and "HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE" are highlighted on the screen for easy identification. Highlighted on the screen, easy to recognize, safer to use. The touch screen display supports 9 languages such as English, Chinese and French.
The redesigned front panel has a number of innovations, such as the output terminal LED color connection indication, which alerts you to which function terminal is in use and ensures correct wiring. The handles and buttons are sleeker and more comfortable to use, and USB ports are mounted on both the front and rear panels. The front panel USB interface can be used to download and store internal calibration constants; the rear panel communication interface provides LAN, IEEE, USB and RS-232 serial ports, which is convenient for communicating with a PC and realizing program control.
Increased confidence and savings in maintenance costs
The 5730A follows the original instrument calibration technique. The 5730A can be fully calibrated for all functions and ranges using only three original standards - a 10V DC voltage standard and 1Ω and 10kΩ resistance standards. The front-panel interface allows technicians to quickly make test connections, enter measurements, etc. The 5730A high-precision calibrator automatically controls the calibration process without much external intervention, and the progenitor calibration process takes about an hour compared to time-consuming and labor-intensive traditional calibration methods. Regular calibration checks of the 5730A using the protocalibration technique can extend the 5730A's traceability to 2 years. In addition, the 5730A's rugged construction and wide operating temperature range of 15°C to 35°C allow it to be calibrated by the prototype in the environment in which it operates, eliminating the need to send it to a higher-level standards laboratory for calibration.
Original Instrument Calibration Saves Time and Effort
When the protocalibration technique was first introduced with the 5700A, many concerned users asked many questions about traceability, and were particularly surprised to find that it was possible to calibrate the full functionality and range of the 5700A using only three simple external standards. Thanks to the continuous testing and evaluation by three European national standards laboratories, the original instrument calibration technique has been fully recognized in the international metrology community. Today, many metrologists can continue to use the Original Instrument Calibration technique to guarantee the 90-day index of the 5730A, extending the cyclic traceability of the calibration to a period of 2 years. This reduces the cost of periodic calibration. Additionally, calibration time is greatly reduced, as the instrumental calibration can be performed at the 5730A user's site, rather than having to travel thousands of miles to a standards laboratory. Calibration check function to monitor instrument performance at any time
To obtain a higher level of confidence and to ensure that the 5730A's performance is within the specified specifications during the calibration cycle, you can use the instrument's internal calibration check function, which allows you to check each function and range of the 5730A and monitor its drift by using the instrument's internal standards. The results of the calibration check can be downloaded and stored directly to a PC via the USB flash drive storage port on the front panel, making it easy to monitor and evaluate the instrument's long-term performance. Users may be surprised to learn how well the 5730A performs with a prototype standard that is internally equivalent to the 732B DC voltage standard and two other resistive prototype standards. These three standards are completely isolated from the output circuits within the instrument and are not used in routine calibration operations, but only when the performance of the calibrator itself is being tested separately.
Further refinement of high-precision digital multi-meter calibration
The 5730A high accuracy calibrator has been further enhanced to help metrology and calibration professionals do a better job of meeting the rigors of calibration. For many years, the 8508A and 3458A have been representative of high-precision digital multimeters. Due to the excellent performance of these eight-and-a-half digit multimeters, there are specific test points in their calibration where the technique of Guard-banding has to be used. This technique reduces the measurement uncertainty requirements while ensuring that the calibration results meet the confidence level of the 99% or 95% and still meet the requirements of these special measurement points. The 5730A's performance enables users to better address these "special point" requirements.
Calibration Boundary Assurance Technology: Peace of Mind
As mentioned earlier, with the development of measurement technology and the rapid changes in instrumentation, the requirement to ensure that the measurement uncertainty ratio is always at or above 4:1 during calibration work is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. In order to minimize the possibility of exceeding the permissible range of the indicator, it is necessary to introduce calibration boundary guarantee techniques. All measurements can have measurement errors, and the distribution of most measurement errors is generally considered to follow a normal distribution. When the TUR is less than 4:1 and the measurements are in boundary conditions, it is difficult for the calibrator to determine whether the measurements are within the allowable error range.
In order to ensure the credibility of the measurement results, the indicator limits of the instrument under test can be artificially adjusted to be close to the nominal value, thus reducing the possibility of the measurement results being out of the indicator range. This is the calibration boundary guarantee technique. After the use of calibration boundary guarantee technology, the measured value must fall within a smaller range from the nominal value to be considered qualified. Calibration Boundary Guarantee technology is to ensure the reliability of test results by adjusting the upper and lower calibration limits. The new 5730A High Precision Calibrator is a high performance DC/low frequency calibrator, but no instrument is perfect, and sometimes the Calibration Boundary Guarantee technique is still needed to meet the special calibration requirements of individual high precision instruments.
High current output extended to 120A
The 5730A can be closed-loop controlled with the 52120A transconductance amplifier to extend the current output of the 5730A to 120A AC and display it directly on the 5730A display. With the closed-loop control mode of operation, the 5730A's current output achieves good performance to cover a wide range of current measurement objects.
