The PBZ series is a bipolar DC stabilized power supply with bi-directionally variable positive and negative polarity that continuously passes through the 0-point without switching the positive and negative polarity of the output terminals. The "switching" and "linear" methods realize light weight, low pulsation noise, and high speed response. The 4-quadrant operation can supply or sink power, and can drive inductive or capacitive loads. It is also equipped with a signal generation function that allows you to freely generate waveforms and set timing. It is also equipped with a synchronized operation function for power change test and a parallel operation function for expanding output current.

Waveform Generation Function - Built-in function signal generator! Programs can be easily edited using arbitrary waveforms!

The PBZ series has 16 built-in waveform elements based on sine, square, and triangle waves. Therefore, it is possible to set the amplitude, frequency, initial phase, sweep, and square wave duty cycle. The 16 built-in waveform elements can be easily edited, saved and recalled. In addition, the timing function allows you to set 16 programs for each waveform from 1 step to 1024 steps. Waveform editing requires the dedicated software Wavy for PBZ (optional).

Timing Control Function - Use the script function to make timing control more convenient!

The timing control consists of 1024 steps. In addition to sine, square, and triangle waveforms, 16 waveform elements are available, enabling the formation of arbitrary timing control waveforms with 1024 steps. Various waveform patterns can be reproduced. The unit of these steps is represented by a program, and a maximum of 16 programs can be made, allowing you to run a single program in the timing control, or to test the program in a different order at will.

As shown in the picture, 8 STEPS are used in 1 PROGRAM, thus leaving 1016 STEPS and 15 sets of PROGRAMS available for use.

Scripting is a function to set the order of the program and the number of cycles, and you can set up to 50 lines in one set of scripts. However, only one mode, CC or CV, can be selected for all programs in a script.

Synchronized operation function - no time deviation even when using the timing function!

When multiple PBZs are used, the timing function does not deviate in time even if each unit is used at the same time. With this method, no time deviation occurs even if multiple units use the timing function for a long period of time.

A delay of 1μs or less occurs at startup.

Multiple power supply change test example

Automobiles are powered by batteries, and a number of on-board electrical devices are turned ON or OFF in the order of power ON = key rotation (+B → ACC → IG). GPS navigation system as an example

Parallel operation function - easy expansion of capacity

Depending on the required current value, parallel connection is used to realize. With the option of 2 parallel operation components, it is possible to realize the function of parallel operation of 2 units of the same model as standard. 3 or more units of parallel operation can be selected from the PBZ SR series, and 6 or more units of parallel operation can be negotiated with our company (without the A model).

Unipolar mode - Quadrant 2 can be used in its entirety

Voltage in a single polarity is called unipolar mode. Normally the current in a unipolar power supply just flows in a single direction, but in the unipolar mode of PBZ the current can flow in both directions (sink, source). According to the figure below, voltage (vertical axis) and current (horizontal axis) can be operated in quadrant 1 and quadrant 2 in the cross diagram. For safety, the power in quadrant 2 and quadrant 4 is limited in bipolar mode (PBZ20-20: 100 W, PBZ40-10: 180 W.) The unipolar mode of the PBZ can be operated in the full field of quadrant 2.

Outputs 6 times the peak current of the rated current - In CV mode, it can output 6 times the peak current of the rated current for a short period of time.

The PBZ20-20A is capable of outputting a peak current of 6 times the rated current for a short period of time Max in CV mode and only when the CC response time is set to 1ms. When other CC response times are set, the current limiting function of the power supply operates as usual and cannot output 6 times the short-time peak current so that the power supply can be used safely. This product delays the response speed only when the CC response is set to 1ms, and outputs Max peak current during the period when the current limit does not take effect. Therefore, in addition to the short-time peak current, the usual current limit function (I.LIM) is effectively maintained without affecting the CC mode response. The short-time peak current output can be used in both bipolar and unipolar modes.

Recommended fields for peak current and duration (protective characteristics)

Maximum rated 6 times the peak current (sometimes 5 times depending on the output voltage), peak current with a duration of 10ms or less is recommended. (The blue part of the picture) The repeat period of the peak current Min is also more than 1s. Repeats shorter than 1s period will cause a malfunction.

  • In the RMS limit field, the peak value is limited by the RMS value, depending on the duration to the rated current.
